It all depends what you want, and where you are going to put it, Hexagonal tanks fit into corners better, and rectangular tanks fit along the wall better. Both add a certain amount of style into the room. As for me, I really like the rectangular tanks, no reason, just find them better for me.

Rectangular tanks are better than hexagonal tanks for the fish. There is more surface area in a rectangular tank than there is in a hexagonal tank of equal size, and there is also more swimming room. A hex with the same number of gallons as a rectangular has half the length as a rectangular, which means the fish pretty much just swim in circles. Hexes are also bad for bottom feeders, as there is less room on the bottom for them to swim, and also because they tend to be taller, which means it takes longer for the food to get to them, and the food loses nutrients as it dissolves in the water (or gets eaten by the upper level fish if it is live food). Also, it is very stressful for bottom feeders with labrynth organs like cories who need to come to the surface every once in a while to gulp air, because in a hex the distance to the surface is a lot greater than in a rectangular aquarium.

Since the hex tanks cost more then the rectangular, I stick to the rec. I think with the rectangular you have less seams to worry about too!

A Hex tank is deeper, so it is a good choice for angel fish,
Rec tank is good for other types of fish.. just depends on what fish you have or gonna get.
Hex is pretty, but pretty aint gonna help your fish be happy if the have no room, if you put angelfish in a 20 G, it will not be happy due to the whiskers getting long and touching the bottom

Rectangular - they have a larger surface area than the hex tanks. They're also not as deep, so surface breathers (like aquatic frogs and labyrinth fish) don't have to swim as far to get to the top.
