Consider this:
I like playing online with my one friend who is one of those "Screw Sony, Go Microsoft" types of people. I am used to xbox live. But I like Final Fantasy. And from what i hear, the PS3 is more powerful than the 360. Also, I think Blu-Ray will win over HD-DVD. But I am not pleased with the PS3 games so far, and most of the games I would get for it are coming out for the 360 too.Should I get a 360 or a PS3?

Too much money wasted on a game system and too much time will be wasted playing on that game system. There are better things to spend money on:

vacation for parents
donations to abuse center
surprise night out for girlfriend
etc...

While I do think that PS3 is more powerfull than 360, I think that if you like games that are on the 360 you should buy a 360. I don't think that there will be a significant difference in the power of the boxes, but in the games. On the PS2 vs Xbox (original), there was about 2 year difference, that's why the Xbox was way more powerfull than the PS2. Now the PS3 is a year newer than the 360, so it's more powerfull.

I think that online play will be more smother on the Xbox Live platform since they have more experience with online game than Sony.

I really don't think I would go to a platform wether it's blu-ray or HD-DVD. Usually, by the time there will be enough movies to make it worthwhile, the players will be cheap.

Honestly, if most of the games you would get for the PS3 are coming out for the 360 then go with the 360. Not only is the PS3 insanely expensive, the games for it are $10 more compared to the prices of the 360 games. Just save yourself some money. Blu-ray is not that big a deal, IMO. Besides, I hear that a lot of people are having trouble with the blu-rays and PS3 in general (though, my teacher has not had any). If anything, buy the PS3 after the holidays, when the bugs are fixed.

At this moment, I'd say the Xbox 360 is the one to go with. There are more games released for this system, it's been out for a while, and it's just much less expensive. The PS3 is more expensive, has less games, it was just released, and it's sold out almost everywhere.
So... If you don't want to wait a long time (6 months or even longer) for the PS3's condition to improve, then get an Xbox 360.
