which one is harder?

a famous actor or a famous director? or generally, a somewhat succesful actor or a somewhat succesful director? which has a better possibility?

It is harder to be a famous director. When you're an actor you have the luxury of being able to make it big with 2 or 3 successful movies. A director however has to have a great batting average. Famous directors (successful ones) have very few bad films under their belt. Here's an example:

Ben Affleck, Famous Actor: Did very few quality films, most of everything else is ****. Regardless, he is still famous.

Steven Spielberg, Famous Director: Out of the numerous films he has directed, only 2 or 3 have been considered failures, if they can even be called that.

When you're a director A LOT falls on you. So you gotta consistently be making good flicks in order to really get recognition. And even if you do make great movie after great movie, the name will not always be as recognizable as a movie star.

A famous actor would be a hard job because you must memorize all the lines and gestures and facial expressions. Directing is a hard job too but most directors aren't as well known as actors. There is a large ratio from actors to directors. About 1:100 at LEAST. Just think, how many famous directors can you name? actors? There are more actors aren't there? Because there is the one director per movie and all the actors in that movie along with all the extras. It would be easier to make it as an actor since there can be so many, you must memorize the lines. But to be a director, you must be VERY GOOD to become well-known and to have made many movies.
