Kenny is a 2006 mockumentary starring Shane Jacobson as Kenny, a Melbourne plumber who works for plumbing company Splashdown.
The film is shot entirely on location in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Sydney and Nashville, Tennessee in the United States of America.
In Australia, there has been high acclaim for the film receiving all round excellent reviews with an average of 4 - 4 and a half stars. Due to this, the number of screens which show the movie has been increased and there is currently discussion relating to the possibility of releasing the movie overseas.
Director Clayton Jacobson describes Kenny as "the Dalai-Lama of Waste Management, eternally optimistic and always ready to put others before himself. Kenny represents the humbling nature of common decency."
"I don't know what all the fuss is about, it's 80% water... and we've got chemicals to take care of the remaining 20%" Kenny
"It's what you come to expect... they think I'm the poo monster" Kenny
FROM Woolloomooloo to Waterloo. The unlikely hero of the hit film Kenny is heading to Britain soon with plans to be the next, well, Crocodile Dunny.
Shane Jacobson, the previously unknown entertainer who was nominated as best actor for the Australian Film Institute Awards this week, will go on the road to introduce screenings in the guise of the country's best-known portaloo plumber. It will continue a campaign that has involved 250 public appearances speaking to more than 20,000 people in the past four months.
In every case, Jacobson has played the character in his trademark overalls and delivered deadpan jokes about toilets and human waste.
The mockumentary has taken $5.2 million in cinemas so far, a surprisingly strong result that was capped by six AFI Award nominations, including best film, this week. The awards have become a family affair with Jacobson's brother, Clayton, nominated for best director and his father, Ronald, up for best supporting actor.
"Ninety-eight per cent of Australia is made up of average people," said Shane about the warm response of audiences during his travels. "Kenny is the best bits of all of us."
The brothers have been amazed by the success of the film, and their idea to take Kenny around the country has proved to be inspired.
