I disagree with those recommending retailers right now. That is a very volatile play at this time of year ... you're either going to make a pretty penny or lose your pants playing retail. And it all comes down to basically the forecast of a few retail giants and analysts that they're about to release in the next few days.

My only exception to the retailer rule might be Best Buy or Circuit City. I do like them this year, not because of AAPL (the iPod is not so much a "hot" item this year) nor the new video game consoles (which will be very low in sales due to no/low inventory). I like them primarily because of TV sales. I think the fall in gas prices and (perhaps out of ignorance) the election outcome have people willing to "splurge" on LCD TVs this year, since "splurging" no longer necessarily means thousands of dollars like years past.

Perhaps the only sure bet with LCD sales is not the retailers themselves, but a manufacturing company like Corning (GLW) that provides key components - the actual super-thin glass in their case. No matter who the actual TV manufacturer is (Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, Westinghouse, etc) nor who the retailer is (Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, etc) the probability is the LCD TV you're looking at contains Corning glass.

IPod sales are supposed to be good this hilday season. Apple is a good bet. Also, Microsoft could have a good season with Vista and its other programs coming out soon

For the holidays, there are a few in my stocking.

JCP is a strong retailer. AZO too.

Airlines are also doing well right now. (AMR, CAL)

AAPL is solid right now too.


Be sure you know when to buy and when to sell. Always do your own homework!

HP will do well and had a record year. Dell is struggling
