I actually have a 1st gen 2gb iPod Nano. the first and 2d gen iPod Nanos are very similar, the differences being that both gen has rounded edges, a brighter computer screen, and longer battery life. in case you'll come across a 1st gen for less severe priced than a 2 gen on eBay, i'd reccommend saving your money and going with the a million gen. The third gen iPod Nano can play video clips, compared to a million and a couple of. the turn away is that the iPod Nano does no longer have a lot storage ability and the computer screen is amazingly small. in case you pick an iPod that performs video, I reccommend the iPod contact, which has an really large computer screen, or the most up-to-date iPod classic, which has alot of storage ability (80 or one hundred sixty gb fashions).

The number one difference is the case. The Gen 1 cases are plastic and have been prone to scratching. The Gen 2 cases are aluminum. All things being equal, I would get the Gen 2. Brighter screen, more storage, longer battery life, coolness factor.

1st gen has a plastic case (scratches easy) about half the battery life, and a darker screen.
2nd gen has an aluminum case (doesn't scratch so easy) 24 hour battery life (and yes I tested it, it is 24 hours) and a 40% brighter screen.
