If you are willing to try it proves Darwin is right. Anyone that is not smart enough to figure out that smoking pot while pregnant will just contribute to the decline of their own genetic line should not reproduce anyway.

The simplest thing for someone to do is quit smoking pot all together (while pregnant and afterwards). A person has to be pretty selfish to continue to get high while pregnant. Several studies have indicated that regular use of marijuana can cause birth defects and inadequate fetal growth. Plus, marijuana isn't manufactured legally, so you never know what you're getting. It may be contaminated with other drugs or herbicides that could place your baby-to-be at even greater risk. Why take the chance?

My best friend has 3 children. She smoked pot through her first two pregnancies but chose not to during her third. The third pregnancy had the fewest complications, the easiest delivery and the third baby overall seems to have a much happier disposition than the children who gestated in pot smoke. The third child is also almost a year old and has never had a cold. . .the first two seem to be sick (with respiratory stuff) all the time. Also, children one and two seem to have a very difficult time with concentration that the third baby does not seem to have.
It's difficult to say how much of this is attributable to the pot smoking, but these are the things that she and I have noticed over the years.

Be mature enough and stop. If you were mature enough to get pregnant act it!!!!!!

Is it safe to smoke marijuana during pregnancy?

Answer: No. Smoking marijuana during pregnancy may affect your baby's growth and the development of his nervous system. Studies have shown that children who were exposed to marijuana during pregnancy sometimes have problems focusing their attention and solving problems.

Children of heavy pot users may also have problems with short-term memory, concentration, and judgment. (There's no evidence so far, however, that marijuana use during pregnancy causes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

One study even found that young children whose mothers smoked marijuana during pregnancy had a higher risk of leukemia than those whose mothers did not.

What's more, there's no way to know if the pot you're smoking has been laced with other drugs (such as PCP) or contaminated with pesticides, which would put your baby at even higher risk. And using marijuana increases the chance that your baby will have birth defects if you're also drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco.

If you smoked pot before you realized you were pregnant, don't panic. The chance that your baby has been affected is very small. Still, it's important to be honest with your practitioner about your previous use of pot and other recreational drugs. She may want to run some extra tests to be sure your baby is developing normally

I'm not female so obviously I have never done it but all I can say is, THC replaces oxygen in the brain.

If you are smoking pot during this period you will ultimately have an impact on the baby's developing brain. I can't tell you what that will cause but I can tell you that the lethargic feeling you get when you smoke pot is caused by the asphyxia (suffocating) that your brain is going through. As does the increase in munchies indicate a lack of oxygen as well.

I'm all for smoking pot if you want but please don't make that choice for your developing child. Let it grow up and make that choice for itself.

Would you give a newborn baby a joint? If not, then why an unborn baby?

Smoking marijuana while pregnant does all the same things to a baby that smoking tobacco does: it decreases available oxygen to the baby. This oxygen deprivation is what causes smaller babies.

Lower birth weight is not just a minor side effect. Low birth weight significantly increases the risk of your baby dying (65%).

Additionally, marijuana alters your sense of reality. It might make you do something really stupid that could endanger your baby in other ways - like impaired driving or drinking alcohol or doing other drugs.

Also, marijuana is not a "controlled" drug - you never really know what you are getting in with the marijuana.

As long as there is even a small chance that you could harm your baby, why would you risk it?

The problem is that you are not smoking just pot you are smoking what ever the dealer put in it. The child will have low birth weight, could be mentaly retarded, may not develop fully due to the fact that oxygen is being cut off. It is bad don't do it, and if you have then stop. I have worked in the NICU before and some of my cousins have gone threw this also.

Dont take this personally or become unnecessarily alarmed. Your child might turn out perfectly normal. A friend of mine has quite a severe addiction to pot and refused to give up when she found out she was pregnant. She was referred to the local drug and alcohol rehab centre in my region for treatment and just left without telling anyone.

She now has a 15 day old baby boy that has "clubfoot" (a malformed tendon in both feet) and needs a cast on both of them to stretch them back out + he has congenital heart defects and is going in for surgery next week to have it corrected. He hasnt been let out of the hospital since his birth.

She also smoked tobacco (and not just mixed with the pot) and no doctor can give conclusive evidence that her habits were the cause of the problems that occured with her bub.

You never know....only that when you do these things with pregnancy and your baby you play russian roulette with an unborn life.

well...i smoked weed at the very end of my first pregnancy...about 2-3 times a week during my second and maybe 3 times a week with my third.

my kids are 5, 4 and almost 2. my 5 year old is a genius, my 4 yr old gets hyper at times and sometimes doesn't want to concentrate (not that he CANT concentrate...he just doesn't want to) and my 2 yr old is speaking in full, understandable sentences.

they were all average size (between 7 and 8 lbs) at birth and have continued to gain weight nicely.
they have been right on track with everything developmentally since birth so i personally have seen no bad effects...i wouldn't recommend it, even if that makes me a hypocrite

When you smoke pot for the first time, the T.H.C., (Tetra Hydro Cannabinal) enters your brain cells and starts making it It's home.

As you continue smoking Marijuana, your brain does not adjust to the fact that if it took 4 joints to get you high at first, after awhile it only takes one but you don't realize it. The T.H.C. keeps building up in your brain cells. Your body doesnt not expell it. It will be part of you for the rest of your life. Continuos smoking of POT and you will become what is know as a MUSHHEAD. Your thinking will be clouded and continue to get cloudier as you continue smoking POT. Since it becomes part of you and you are part of your child, draw your own conclusions.

If smoking pot doesnt decrease a woman's fertility and they overcome that hurdle they go on to have higher rates of spontaneous abortion, pregnancy complications, and problems with labor and delivery

Fathers' use lead to higher rates of certain heart abnormalities. Mothers' use is associated with mutant lymphocytes--deranged immune cell factors--which could later lead to higher rates of childhood cancers.

Their newborns can experience mild withdrawal and some nervous system effects. And the toxic effects of pre-natal marijuana exposure is the gift that keeps on giving. Effects are often not readily apparent in newborns. Still, psychologists who have studied these babies have found neurological delays. Likewise, few negative effects are apparent between the ages of 1 and 3. But a woman shouldn't be fooled if she has heard of a study where the very young kids show no ill effects. Pre-natal marijuana exposure effects what are called "higher cognitive functions" which don't express themselves until later. At four years old, decreases in verbal ability and memory can be found in those kid exposed to pre-natal marijuana use. At ages 5 and 6, more problems with attention span are found. Needless to say, none of this sets the kid up for a great experience in grade school. At ages 9-12, the same problems persist and compound. Pre-natally exposed to marijuana kids have lower impulse control, don't do as well on certain types of analysis and reasoning tasks, and have lower reading and language skills.

All in all Smoking anything decreases oxygen to the mothers brain and it if does that to the mother well duh it does it to the unborn fetus.
