It's a sad thing, but the creative team for the WWE doesn't give a damn who can wrestle and who can't(with the exeption of the great kahli). Benoit is one of the all time great technical wrestlers along with eddie guerrero and bret hart, and if the WWE were smart, the creative team would come up with a storyline where Benoit just out-wrestle's everyone until he's the world champ. The reason he's only a midcarder is because he doesn't really have a character, and his mic skills arnt great. I think the best move for him at the time would be for him to re-invent himself in TNA. Even though their not as popular, most people there actualy wreslte good. Plus, Benoit would be a main eventer in TNA. Not to mention this could sway more WWE wrestlers to venture over to TNA like Angle, Christain, and others did.

I didn't read the other answers so a lot of this might be covered. But I gotta say I wish he wasn't. In my opinion it's a constant coin flip on who the best wrestler today is between Benoit and Angle. Unfortunately, most american fans do not appreciate good technical wrestler and classic mat wrestling like fans in Europe do. Blame that on the Attitude Era.
Anyways, to answer your question, the WWE pulled Benoit back because a drop in ratings. The build up for Wrestlemania XX was good as far as the ratings went because it was the first time Benoit had a real good run at the title and the fact that he had jumped from Smackdown to Raw in order to do it. Wrestlemania XX itself saw one of the best moments in wrestling history when Eddie and Benoit were in the ring together. But soon after ratings fell because Benoit just couldn't draw crowds. The WWE is hesitant to put him back up as a main eventer with the rise of younger wrestlers like Batista, Orton, Cena, and Edge.

Well, he has been both WCW and WWE champion. But, I get what you are saying. Traditionally, the things holding back Benoit have been his size and lack of mic skills. Vince has always had a preference for big guys. That's why an oaf like Lex Luger got a billion chances to prove that he couldn't draw money with a box of crayolas and Benoit has had to work his *** off for everything he has gotten.

Benoit is a great wrestler. Maybe one of the best today. but he lacks charisma. To be a top guy you must do 4 things. 1.Good (not great) In ring skills 2.Work all house shows 3.Have pretty good mic skills 4. Sell merchandise.
If you lack one of these its hard to be a top guy. If a guy does get to be a top guy its because of respect of hard work.
It just turns out benoit doesnt have great mic skills and doesnt sell merchandise

WWE Creative is making a huge mistake. He should drop the title to Chavo at Survivor Series and they should put Benoit back in the World Title hunt.

even though he is without a doubt one of the greastest in ring wrestlers of all time, nowadays you have to be even better on the mic, and unfortunately benoit just doesnt have it. he cant get over without the interview skills to be the top guy. thats already been proven. the wwe tried it, but it just didnt work.

seriously thats a good question....i dont know although he should be competing at the championship titles level....they give him a run as champion a few yrs back but then he went to smackdown...hes been around for a long time maybe hes content with his role and glad to be working..most of them guys make demands to get title shots in their contracts.

because they only give him title shots like united states titles and others but hes plenty good enough he and the undertaker and flair are the only good ones left in wwe. beniot needs to go after the world heavyweight championship.
