...sit around the barraks and refuse to go out and fight? Would they tell their commanders that they don't want to do it, they'll just wait and let the unit that replaces them take on the job? Would they leave their nation hanging in limbo while they did nothing?

The fact that the military is highly Republican does not have any bearing on this question. If the GOP Congress valued the sacrifices of the GOP military, wouldn't they want to support them as best they can for as long as they could?
