Words by: Joaquim Osório Duque Estrada
Music by: Francisco Manoel da Silva
Adopted: 1890 (melody), 1922 (lyrics)
Brazil's anthem was originally composed in 1822 (the year of independence) and first performed in 1831, but did not come into use until 1890, the year after the republic was established. At first, the anthem was wordless, but a competition for lyrics was held in 1909, a winner was chosen and, to celebrate the centennial of independence in 1922, the words were officially adopted.
New lyrics were written in 1922, and the melody has been slightly modified in the past several decades since first composition.
Brazil has several "patriotic songs" that are used as quasi-national anthems, the "Anthem for Independence" (the former national anthem), Anthem of the Proclamation of the Republic, Anthem to the Flag, and Song of the Expeditionary. You can find the Portuguese lyrics to these songs as well as links to MP3 versions, at the Brazilian army web site (page in Portuguese). Also, Brazil, like many other "federalist" nations, have regions that have their own anthems as well.

The Conservatives suck,
they are all crooks,
they found out the hard way,
when they lost.
