then, the plug didn't fit in the wall. i just bent the prongs back so it would, but now i'm wondering if that is an electrical hazard and that i shouldn't use it anymore. 'expert' advice is appreciated -- the more you know about electrical stuff, the better!

i add that i wouldn't be so concerned because i have done this before, but this time i seem to have really bent the prongs so that it took a lot more coaxing into fitting into the plug than i've ever encountered before.

Yes it is fine...Check the plug too. Now for an easy solution...I leave an extention cord by my vacuum. I plug the vacuum into it and then put it in the wall. I can vacuum my house without worring and it saves alot of time...It is not that I am lazy but my kids are 9, 8, 7, 4, and 3...Yes 5 of them!

if when you ripped the plug out of the wall did not damage the plug, you are fine and you can use your vacuum with no problem after you bent back the prongs.
it is also good to check the outlet on the wall to see if it is in good condition as well.

Should be no problem unless you forced it into the outlet or you have damaged the plug. New plugs are pretty cheap. Make sure other plugs will fit into the outlet with no problem. They can easily be replaced for a few dollars.

If the prongs are straight and you have trouble putting it in the wall you may have a bad wall outlet. Replace it and you will be fine.

it should be fine. if it were damaged, the vacuum would just stop working. (as the circuit would not be complete in the vacuum.)

if there's no visible damage to the outlet, it's probably fine. those things are meant to take some serious beating.

best just to replace the plug...
it's very simple to do...just put the wires in the right places and check that you use the same amp wattage..
never tamper with electricity ..
