Ok someone keeps on f-ing prank calling me, with their number listed as "unknown" I don't want to bother the police by asking them to find it for me, but is there another way to stop this.

A prank caller is into freaking you out. Don't get freaked or upset just act natural and say hello then when there is a ignorant one ask very politely to not call you any longer if it continues then call the police but this way may be the easiest

Who cares. Its most likely someone that you know if you have a cell phone. By the way people who prank call (including myself) think it is funny when people threaten to call the police and when they scream and cuss at them. The prank callers get a kick out of it and will just keep doing it. When they call just keep your cool and hang up, if it is someone you do not know they will stop then because they are not getting a kick out of it anymore. BUT if they keep calling you it is probably one of your friends or someone you gave your number to. If it is really serious calling, like threatening life or sexual stuff or stalking stuff then you might want to change your number or go to the police. If the person is just saying it is Pizza Hut and your pizza is late you are to uptight.

I know if it's a cellphone, you can go to your provider and even though they are blocking their number, the provider can get that number/s for you. I would have to guess that a regular phone provider can do the same. I had a problem with this back a few months ago. So I went to Cingular, and they gave me a printout of every time that @ss called me with his number and name right there. I went to the police, and he never bothered me since.
I wouldn't have cared so much, but this @ss started calling me at like 11pm, then spent literally ALL night calling me over and over. When I got that print out, he was on there 409 times. I couldn't take it anymore. =0

just say :
do you have nothing else to do with your life but prank call?
or you could turn your phone off?
of just make a beep sound and say : this is a recording in a operator voice it will work, i get prank callers all the time : )

Sorry i'll stop calling you....... hah! Try your phone company, or *69 them next time they call, I think that calls them back. If your phone lists numbers, their number should show up on your list after you call them. Once you have their number do a reverse look up on their phone number and find their house address. If its a house line go there and play a prank on them, Its fun! I did it before. If its personal cell, then report it to your phone company and to your local sheriffs dept. (not by dialing the emergency number though)

No, they can't stop it. You just have to block unknown callers or not answer. The police, phone company, no one can stop it... but I think there's a way to trace it.

Throw some insults there way. Or call the phone company. You can turn on a feature that will not allow anyone with a blocked number to call you.

I think it depends on your phone company. With mine you can call 'call trace' - *57 immediately after you hang up. The phone company will trace the call but not give you the number. After 3 such calls the phone company sends the individual a letter to cease.and has you call their annoyance department, If it continues they take more action as well as give you the number. It is your choice then to give it to the pollice
