2 weeks ago my daughter's kia lights went dim, radio stop playing, and the the little man with the air bag infront of him came on all of a sudden, daughter made it back to school; that night and I went up the next day to fix the problem, found the car was dead as a door knob jump it off it cranked with no problem to the positive end of the battery of and the car kept running. So I figured it must be the battery so brought it to AUTOZONE they said the battery had a collasped cell. Okay I bought a new battery put it in evedrything okay for about two weeks, my daughter does not use her car to much at school but she calls me this morning and said it done the same thing it done last time with the addtion of the power door locks going up and down by themselves so I am on the way tomorrow to change out the alternator does this sound like this will fix my problem ,,, she probablly been running on battery for the last two weeks ??????? need any and all opions on this one

Honestly it could be the alternator, but it's more likely that there is a short circuit some where that is causing the battery to drain. I would suspect the circuit that is connected to the automatic door locks is the problem since you've/she's witnessed the door locks going up and down by themselves.

1. Get the battery charged back up. (Autozone will trickle charge for free, but it takes a few hours)
2. Disconnect the fuse that goes to the power door locks.
3. Purchase one of those power batteries that allow you to jump a car with out another car. Typically they run about $50, but allow you to jump start the car with out someone else. Teach daughter how to use it. (Make sure you inform her red to + and black to -)

If after doing this and the battery does not drain completely in the next few weeks, then the circuit problem is defintely in the power door locks. You'll have to trace the wiring down to determine where the short circuit that is causing the drain is located.

If the car does drain the battery still, she can jump start the battery with the power/jumper battery to get home.

Your short circuit is most likely somewhere on the driver side door. (The one that gets used most often.) Either the switch or somewhere where the wire runs to or in the door some where.

What it sounds like is since your skipping gears when you shift the engine boggs down. The symptoms you describe are exactly what an engine does when it boggs down. YOu don't need to repair anything you just need to make sure your using all of your gears or that you are going fast enough to use the gear your in. Most brake pads on the from have a piece on metal that scrapes the rotor to let you know your pads are getting thin it could be this or it could just simply be dust and dirt traped between your pad and rotor

I think the alternator is the best idea at this point. make sure the connections and cables are all good condition, no corrosion or looseness. and check the fuses.

good luck! hope the alternator is what it needs.
