I'm starting my own buisness and am looking to sell software I developed to highschools and colleges. I need to know who at the school should I talk to? Who should I go to? Introduce myself to? How should I approach them? What is the process to get their sale?

What are some ways to cut through the burocratic process?

Any and all ideas and suggestions will be GREATLY appreiciated. Thanks!

You could go through lengthy interviews at district offices, or you could go school to school showcasing, or demonstrating your software. Meet with the teachers, have them asking for it, and also, meet with the principals and if there is one, the tech teacher or coordinator. They are the ones with purchasing power and $$ in accounts set aside for software or hardware.

Almost every public school has a process for purchasing anything, particularly software. First off find out if there is a technology committee and get a copy in their hands to try out or get them to allow you to give them a presentation. Second find out when their budget is due for the next school year. For example in the school I teach at our budget requests for NEXT school year (07-08) is due by next month. Anything NOT submitted for consideration by next month can not be purchased for the NEXT school year. It is all done WAY in advance because districts need to get full budget plans together and approved by their board of education and then it needs to go to the voters for approval.

Colleges are very different, usually those go by department and even some go by individual professors. Contact the department which your software is designed for and ask if you can present at a department meeting.

The District that controlls the school and the Principal of the school.
Approach with confidence and all the knowledge you have of the Software ware.
The process will begin at time of your presentation of the software.
