There are 2 A3 models - the 2.0T and the 3.2 V6. Only the V6 has AWD (Quattro). That said, the FWD model is still good in the snow. Neither car is going to be unstoppable, and for truly large snowfalls, AWD is definitely preferable.
The V6 model is almost $9K higher, so the AWD may not be worth the price difference. Check out Subaru Impreza Wagons (including the WRX) if you're looking for similar cars (the Saab 9-2 is also a re-badged Impreza).
Also:
- be careful - 4WD is not the same as AWD. AWD systems don't have a low range and typically use a central differential to allow the system to be active all the time. 4WD systems typically have a locking differential, so the 4 wheel mode can only be used on slippery roads (rain, snow, mud, etc). They also have a low range for truly rough terrain.
- all Audis with AWD do not have the Quattro badge, as was mentioned (I had an S4 with Quattro without the badge).

All Audi's are good in snow to a certain extent. Most are because of the front wheel drive but the best ones have been and remain the quattros. Audi was the first to come up with all-wheel-drive for their cars and as such have become an industry leader in the technology involved. The quattros are virtually unstoppable. Your A-3 should be FWD and if you're wanting AWD the first available model is the A-4. Good Luck.

Most of the Audis sold in the USA are all-wheel drive, but not all. If an Audi is all-wheel drive, it should have the word "Quattro" in the rear right corner, underneath the engine size number - e.g., "2.0T Quattro", "4.2 Quattro", etc.

Only Audis with the Quattro option are all wheel drive. This option is very helpful in the snow and winter driving conditions. I drive a TT Quattro and wouldn't trade it for anything (except a Ferrari)

Only the Qattro models, but A3 desn't have a Quattro model
Quattro means four so it's A6 Quattro, A4 Quattro, S8 Quattro,... becase these models also have without the Quattro and it would be A4,A6, A8, S4, S6, S8 and A is a normal series as S is a sport series
Besides the S3 doesn't have four by four but it's a spetacular car with over 200 HP

Audi is four wheel drive, so it is naturally good in snow. Comparable cars include the Subaru WRX (Impreza) (also 4 wheel drive).
