A minor is a subject secondary to your major, and requires fewer credits. You could be a history major (30 credits) and have a minor in philosophy (21 credits). These were the semester credit requirements for most majors and minors when I was in college. It is just a second subject that you also have an interest in; neither one is necessarily a career option. Some people turn it into a double major, but that requires more credits and can be dificult to fit in with your other required core classes.
