Either a failure or lazy. Not much of a difference though. Some people don't want to get educated, don't want to work over time, don't want to do anything to earn it. When the Democrats make welfare so easy to come by, why should anyone work? Theres no incentive

I would think NOT! I never did but that doesn't mean I didn't need it. I work 4 jobs a week once. I would do anything to get by and not ask for help. That doesn't mean that I was successful either. There are times that it is best for the kids or you need medical coverage or some other reason. Asking for help can be a good thing. My pride got in my way and work my self to the bone. Maybe I should have asked for a little help. Why kill yourself. We all pay into the government and I think that maybe someone who really needs help and money should get it. I hope I am helping someone somewhere.

Not exactly a failure, but maybe a misdirected success. Just think of all the knowledge in skills that are required to seek out and receive government assistance. You and I have no idea of where to start to look for the government aid, but some people are very adept at it, and not just welfare and rent assistance recipients, but many farmers, manufacturers, and contractors also know how to work the system to their benefit. All I can say is that if these people spent all the energy and time they do on getting the assistance they get on actually working, I bet they would be extremely successful.

Lets say there's a woman with three kids, uneducated, divorced to a man who never pays child support, and works 80 hours a week at minimum wage, she wouldn't be able to afford the basics for her and her kids. While she might have not done enough to get a better job, or get in a better position, her kids are innocent. There are many situations where the government welfare helps out kids who have not done anything wrong to be in there position. So no, asking or receiving help doesn't mean you are a failure, since you might just be an innocent kid who is a victim of circumstance.

I have paid taxes my entire adult life and so has my husband, 2 years ago I got sick and have not been able to work. We are receiving a small amount of food stamps and I am glad it was available. I even had brain surgery and still have not been given Social Security so that little bit of food makes a huge difference. we don't celebrate Christmas or birthdays which can be hard because we have a 14 year old son, but it would be impossible without the food stamps.

Yeh, but sometimes life throws you for a loop, and you need the help. Maybe someone doesn't have the ability to work 5 jobs, and what if they have no support from anyone? It doesn't mean you're a failure, it may just mean that you're temporarily in a bind and need help to get through it. So many people that get "free money" end up getting good jobs and contributing to society cause they got the help they needed to get back on their feet. Sitting around for years and years, not even trying to better yourself while collecting this money is another story!!!

Yes.

Free money and welfare are bull. If you got laid off, you should only be able to BORROW what you need but like every other honest and hardworking person, should have to repay it back just the same. All these people sitting around popping out kids because they get more welfare money that comes from the checks of honest workers don't deserve crap.

I'm a college student and my 90k salary dad refuses to lift a finger to help pay my tuition, so I have to get 9%-interest private loans while some people get all the money they need from the government. So even though they think I'm better off than people who can't afford college, I'm the one who's going to be paying off these loans for the next forty years, while everyone who got free money can relax and have it their way. We should ALL have to pay back what we owe. What an effed up system.

I've got to add: for all the morons who work ten jobs and whine that the government isn't helping you out, you can loan out the money just like everyone else who needs it and pay it back later. Free money is different from borrowing money. You're not a failure if you need help to get back on your feet and pay what you owe later; you're a failure if you take what you need and don't give back. It's your fault you didn't stay in school long enough to get a decent job. Why should the people who worked their way to high-paying careers pay for your failure?

Oh yeah, and here's a thought: if you can't support your six kids with your burger-flipping job, stop having more. Problem solved.

yes yes yes!
Why is it the government's job to give money to jobless people? That is the duty of charities and churches. There is an old rule that the only thing that a government is allowed to do are things that it can do with a sword.

Have you ever seen that movie "Million Dollar Baby"? The main character saved her prize money from boxing tournaments, and bought her family a house, so they could move out of their trailer.
But her mother was horrified an ungrateful, because once she moved into a house, she would lose her welfare. That is the heighth of laziness, relying on the government for your livelihood. Our government is in over 6 trillon dollars in debt, and it is getting worse.

that's part of the problem with America. There are plenty of people that are out there working 2 or more jobs. The problem with that is that there is often times children involved that go unsupervised for hours. Not to mention, what kind of life is it for kids not to be able to see their parents because they are always at work.

No. It just means you need an extra hand. The tax supported "safety net" we have in this society is a means of making sure we take care of the least fortunate. A lot of people - rich and poor - simply need help some times. We are a benevolent society.
