If you were an intern and had to go to an interview in another state on a work day, would you tell your boss that you had a job interview? I've read that you should say you have an 'appointment' but it sounds so vague and fishy.

I figured since I'm an intern, i'd be there only temporarily so they'd expect me to be going on interviews. right???

I'd tell my boss. Unless not being at work that day will get you fired.

No I would say I had an appointment, which would be true. This does not imply to your boss that your interest is placed else wear in case the interview dose not pan out. If your boss wants specific details which is not usually the case then tell him, otherwise your not hiding anything.

Interns are SUPPOSED to be interviewing. And, honesty and being forthright are qualities highly respected by management. ANYTHING "vague and fishy" damages not only your reputation and effectiveness, but also undermines your own resolve and lucidity of vision.

It's your boss, not your mom. You have the right to personal "appointments." Good luck!!

Nope.

Reason: Personal.

You do have an appointment and its none of your boss's business where you go on that appointment.
