I am not sure? I have no idea how old your computer is? but from past experience some Compaq use a USB keyboard only but you can also buy an adapter for about $2 that will plug into your I/O plug... this will make it possible to use just about any keyboard.... also if on the back of your computer next to your mouse plug there is another plug about twice as large as the mouse plug then you can also buy an adapter that will use the I/O type keyboard or the one with the small plug like the mouse plug.... Anyway most computer stores have the adapters for around $2 or a friendly computer shop will just give you one for free.... I am sure if you go to your local computer shop they will tell you what you need and give you the right adapter...

Hi, there! As others have said, it is feasible to use two mice. As far as the keyboards are concerned, yes, this is also possible. However, if you are using Windows, you have to take into account that Windows will see the two keyboards as if they were only one. I suspect that Windows just transfers the characteristics of the first keyboard onto the second keyboard. However, you can type your name using, for instance, the first keyboard for N, second for E, back to the first one for A, the first one again for S, and the second one for H (N-E-A-S-H). To play it safe, I would advice that you use both your PS2 and USB keyboard with the same key layout and the same hot keys and multimedia keys (if you are using them). If both are from the same manufacturer, the better. That way, you would not be forcing a different or slightly different second keyboard to behave as if it were the first one, and you would minimize any possible incompatability issues as well. Also, this will smooth things out since you could theoretically move freely from one keyboard to the other without fear of hitting the wrong key. Good luck! Makberto

If there is a plug next to the mouse plug and it is round and the same size as the mouse plug then you have ps2 connections (which are standard) and can use a ps2 keyboard (you can get one for as little as $10.00). If the plug is round and is larger than the mouse plug then you have the old style DIN type - also standard and also cheap. If it is rectangle then you have an ancient AT&T computer (a 286) and it makes a nice paperweight.

There are two types of keyboards. PS2 and USB. unless it's really really really old, then it's one of those two.

Now if it's USB then any keyboard that has a USB connection should work.

If not then you'll have a round looking slot that has a bunch of pins in it. Most PCs have this.
They sell converters at your local computer shop for aroun $3 that can turn a PS2 keyboard into USB and vice versa

Buy an adapter for your keyboard. Sounds like you have a standard RS 232 C connector but the computer needs a round type connection. You can buy adapters at any electronics outlet that sells computers.

If the keyboard plug next to the mouse is round instead of rectangular, you need a PS/2 keyboard, they are cheap and available at any computer store, here's one from amazon for under 14 bucks http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-64332-Comfort-Type-Keyboard/dp/B00008NV1E/sr=1-4/qid=1164147134/ref=sr_1_4/104-3070473-1292705?ie=UTF8&s=pc

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
