First, I believe he spoke out in anger, brought on by the pressures of a live performance. No one BUT someone who makes his living on stage knows THAT particular kind of pressure. Even pros, who work at how to handle hecklers can be pushed beyond the point of self control.
HOWEVER, as someone has already said, today, once the "N" word comes out, you can't put it back. The fact that the word is even a part of his vocabulary is telling. I don't care HOW angry or scarey a black person may appear to me, THAT particular word is not the first thing out of my mouth. I don't live in a culture where that word is used in any kind of casual sense.
In othe words, I may call a person an a**hole, a turd brain, even as son-of-a-b****, but the "N" word just isn't there.
No excuse is even possible. Apologies are appropriate. Forgiveness MAY happen, but HIS career is certainly tainted, if not utterly ruined.

I hate when people using being drunk as an excuse to do or say certain things they later regret. That's such a copout, alcohol REMOVES inhibitions, bringing out peoples true colors. As the old saying goes "Drunken words are sober thoughts." What do I think of Kramer personally? I think like most people he might actually be a bigot. The only difference is that he said what he had been thinking. Do I blame the heckler? of course not, any comedian should be able to deal with hecklers without losing it. He lost control of his emotions, and for that he takes the big "L" .Yeah, his career is ruined.

I think it is an important distinction to realize that Cosmo Kramer is a character from a TV show. The man who made this very unfortunate gaff is Michael Richards. As a person who has made mistakes, I empathize with him, even if those he hurt can never forgive him. Good luck, Mr. Richards.

Even if he was angry, it doesnt excuse his racial comments. They were disgusting. When I get angry, I don't just lash out at the first 'race' that gets in my way and start screaming hate and abuse at them and everyone else around me.
No, I don't think an apology is enough, there was something else about that, and something deep-seated that caused him to lash out at black people. Yeah, he may have been angry, but there was a million other ways he could have lashed out, and he chose to be racial.

I agree with the first comment; we're human, and humans tend to make mistakes. A lot. I think he just took it too far and having the consideration for those who would be most offended in the audience may have slipped his mind before he let those words slip past his lips. He didn't "look before he leapt".

I think he has a serious screw loose somewhere. I don't care if you're angry or not, any adult should be able to keep their composure and not blow up with the vulgar display that he showed us. Everybody is human, but in this case that's hardly an excuse.

It isn't a matter of being angry. No sane person would lash out that way, unless something else was going on. He has other problems, and he snapped. Highly inappropriate, but I bet there's more to it then him being racist.

Yes, I saw it. Sure we all get angry at times and we make mistakes but, to be honest about this particular issue. "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth does speak."
Peace,
Hope
