InuYasha is a manga written by Rumiko Takahashi. The manga just celebrated its 10th anniversary this month. It was adapted into an 167 episode anime series produced by Sunrise which first aired on Nippon TV in Japan from 16 October 2000 to 13 September 2004. The television run of the anime has ended, while the manga is still being released in Japan as of today. Four movies have also been released.

Yush, Inuyasha is a cartoon, manga series, and has turned into a huge enterprise. o.o Personally, I'd recommend you stay clear of the anime, because there's WAAAY too many fillers and let's-upgrade-Inu's-sword arcs. -_- So yeah, I suggest you read the manga. There a four movies out, and you can get plushies, pillowcases, keychains, and other junk for us otakus to waste their money on. (And no, I'm not insulting anyone, I do it myself. ^^) It's a very good series, I suggest you try it.

The "books" are called manga or graphic novels. Inu Yasha is about a girl (Kagome) who travels back in time through a well on her property.
She finds a sleeping Inu Yasha bound to a tree. after she Is suspected to be a spy and brought to a near by village it is discovered that she is the re-encarnation of the priestess who bound him to the tree. later that night, a demon attacted and Inu yasha awoke and Kagome released him to fight the other demon. during the battle the shikon no tama (jewel of four souls) was ripped out of kagome's side. The demon got ahold of it and become stronger. After Inu Yasha defeated the demon, he went after kagome. The current priestess of the village, Kaede, put enchanted subjugation beads around Inu Yasha's neck. Every time Kagome says "sit", Inu Yasha goes crashing to the ground. The next day, the jewel was accidentally shattered by Kagome and the story is about her and Inu Yasha, and a few more characters the meet along the way, gathering the shards and defeating an evil foe along the way.

Yeah.
The cartoon (anime) is based on the manga (comic book). I mean, a lot of people know about the InuYasha series. I don't know if you want to know something specific, but...I'll give you a link.

Started off as Manga, was adapted as an anime and now has 3 movies. The real ending of the show is in movie 3. In any case, it's over (the anime I mean).

Yes there are mangas and many DVDs of the show. I recommend it. Its playing on Adult Swim right now, but if you haven't seen it from the beginning you won't understand it. Its a very long series but its good I promise!

yes, but i think most people would prefer you call it anime for the TV version and as for the books, there like comics (most otaku prefer you call it manga) so, ya, its out there and i think there are only 164 eps
