I have a decent sword, a dozen silver arrows, and bow. Thanks in advance...I need to know by tomorrow, the fate of a whole village is at risk!

why kill the dragon ? learn to communicate with him/her and learn the wisdom and knowledge he/she has. besides how do you know it is actually a dragon in the first place ? someone may have cast a spell on a gorgeous, glorious Damsel and She is waiting for you to free her from the curse.

It depends what type of Dragon, sword would be your best bet but you need to hit it directly in it's heart, which can be extremely hard to do. But I'd still go with the sword. But first use the arrows to weaken it. Hope that helps.

Well, with a lot of help.
In D20 a loaded dice may do the trick too. ;)
But in the end, you slay a dragon when and how the story needs it (Deus ex machina) so, play along and it should at least, give you a memorable death.

Assuming the dragon is male, quickly find a female in estrus to lead him away from the village.

Trickery, deception, elusion and evasion. Going head on will get you eaten, mauled and spit upon. You need a good plan, need to keep on your feet, and need to run around a LOT.
A bunch of kids could take out a dragon with nothing on them if they kept their cool.

by shooting the eyes out first so it can't see you; then you quietly tiptoe and shot behind the knees so it can't walk; then you shoot the heart. 2 for the eyes; 2 for the legs, [also the 2 behing the elbows so it can't use its arms] then 1 right below the head where the spine meets; then 5 for the heart. that will kill it
