I loved my first week of college. Work load really depends on how many classes you are taking. 12 hours isn't too bad. Good luck and hope you enjoy your college life. It goes by SOOO fast. I'm a junior right now and feel like my life has just flown by!

Not a whole lot of accuall work, but there will be some. Mostly it will be professors handing out their Syllabysis (not sure i spelled that right) and going over how class will work for the semester.
Math classes tend to get right into material. There will be alot of reading material assigned and lab classes always issue lab equiptment for the sememster. Most classes the first couple days tend to be like half sessions.
As far as other things go it's pretty exciting the first week. Everyone is meeting new people and establishing friends and "hang out people". Dorms get pretty wild. Room partys, and RA's set alot of social activitys up to get people to make friends.
People are kind of wandering around looking for classrooms and just checking out the common areas as well. Also the book stores tend to get VERY busy during this time. If you can get your books early do it so they don't run out of used copys and you have to buy brand new ones.
Some people get pretty shocked and lonely at college their first few months (they dont know anyone, they are nervous or afraid)
Best thing to do is to just find some people to hang out with. Talk to people in your dorm and don't be a "shut in".

The workloans shouldn't be too heavy, as the profs are just getting you ramped up for the next week, when the real stuff starts. You'll probably have some reading, but probably not much more than that.

For each hour you spend in the classroom, you should be spending about 3-5 hours outside the classroom doing work on your own.

The first week is not that bad really. I just started my first semester at Washburn University This past August, and I am thinking about The Nursing program but, not entirely sure yet.
Anyway, the first week is just going over class and university rules and teachers' expectation; getting books, waiting for late students and meeting new friends! Have fun!!!

I graduated college a couple of years ago and glad not to be there anymore. What can you expect..... lot's of works. It's not like high school anymore most teacher expect you starting working on homework that very day. You would be suprised and the amount of homework you will be given right away.

GOOD LUCK!

I just started a junior college and it was pretty nice. I had homework on the first day in one of my classes but not the other. I only have two classes twice a week (mid start). I was impressed with it. They were very layed back too. Of course the whole school is layed back though. It's a very relaxed atmosphere there. Maybe junior colleges and universities are different. I dunno.

I spend the first day going over the course syllabus. I begin lectures the next class period, and I do expect my students to begin the readings so that they don't fall behind. But I don't give any quizzes, tests, or written assignments that first week.

It really depends on what classes you're taking, and who your profs are.

Drunk.

No workload what so ever.

I had many courses where the 1st day consisted of a TA handing out a syllabus and leaving.

Crazy, exciting and fun. Usually the first week of class is trying to get to your class on time, knowing was books to get, wear to sit, and looking over the sylibus. No matter what get orgnaized and stay that way. Belive me it will help keep your grades up.

As far as class goes it B.O.R.I.N.G becuase all they do is outline the syllabus for you and make you read the school handbook. But socially, you'll meet tons of new people becuase everyone is so outgoing becuase they know they have to be if they want friends.
