I'd say mashed potatoes and jell-o are all he could eat without choking if he can't eat the puffs yet. I'd even say don't give him the potatoes until he can get down other mashed foods. You don't have to force table foods down your baby. You will notice him begging for bits when he is ready for them. My daughter didn't start begging until she got used to gerber #2 foods. She was 9-10 months old. Now at 11 months, she begs just like a puppy when we eat. We give her bits of veggies, bread, rice, and ground meat. I find she likes our food better than her bland baby food most the time. Just don't rush it.

If he is chocking on food (I have not the foggiest idea what a Gerber fruit puff is) I would be concerned about him in general.
My baby has eaten whatever he could pick up and chew since he started solids (around 7 months) and he has NEVER chocked. (Now he does chock on the little bits of plastic he eats whenever he can find them *sigh*) but never on food. And he eats apples, steak, pineapples, chili. He eats what I eat except for honey, dairy, nuts, and wheat.
Oh and I do not give mashed potatoes because of the dairy. I steal a few pieces of potatoes before they are mashed for my baby. Same with any veg that people put butter or sugar on. I take it as soon as it is cooked and set it aside.
It is called baby-led introduction to solids and really babies shouldn't choke on food they are developmentally able to eat.

Mashed potatoes are great. Anything that is soft is good for him. If he has some teeth to chew then any soft vegetable or noodles. You might get away with finely cutting up some turkey for him. Cranberries are good. Happy Thanksgiving!!

If he has teeth he can probably eat most of what we eat. Try mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, small bites of Turkey and stuffing. Anything soft probably. And take pictures because it is funny to see them eat that stuff for the first time.

If you can catch the potatoes, especially sweet, before they add the butter and/or suger that would be fine. Beans may need a little pureeing still. Do you have peas, you could fork mash them. Or just bring a jar of soemthing and save yourself the stress!

yes but make sure you watch him, I never gave my kids canned foods just table foods, sometimes they gag because it is too salty or sweet that is why they like canned food, no flavor. just mash everything, beans too!! 9 months old should be able to eat table foods great!!

Jellied cranberries. Also dont try feeding him lots of new stuff at once, if he would happen to have a reaction, you wouldnt know what it was.
