My best friend and I had been inseperable for almost 9 years. From college on. We really loved one another and I never thought anything would come between us. He didn't either. He promised me nothing could, or would. But literally months after that comment, something did. Another person. The problem is that even though we were only friends, he met someone that didn't see it as okay to share intimate things with another woman. I actually agree. I would feel very threatened if my boyfriend was constantly hanging out with and being extremely close to someone that had a longer history with him. Especially if she was attractive. I think men and women can be friends, but best friends, takes away from being able to have that with a significant other eventually even if not right now...eventually it will.
Enjoy it while you can, knowing that it can't last forevor.

There is no problem with a man and a woman being best friends and having no intentions of going out, etc. Many people are able to do that, all you have to do is look at them as a friend regardless of gender

It's possible. I think you're asking about an unmarried man and woman, and yes, they can be. With the right man and woman, with a strong understanding, you could have such a strong friendship without it getting romantic, but the two would have to be pretty mature.

Yes, I think it is possible. One of my best friends is a guy, and I don't see him in any other way except friends. I know he feels the same with me, and it's like we can just talk about whatever. So yes, I do think it is possible.

Yes. I have two female friends and I'm married. We've never had an interest in each other "in that way" and we pretty much hang out just I like do with my guy friends.
