It depends on the case type and how bad they want you to show up. I have known people to ignore a subpoena and have nothing happen, on the other hand, I have known people who have been picked up and forced to appear.

If you have been ordered to appear in court, then you may be arrested.

If you have a summons on a criminal matter, and you fail to appear, a warrant will probably be issued. If you have a summons on a civil matter, then generally no warrant would be issued, but you may lose the matter by default, therefore forfeiting any defenses you might have.

If you have been served witha subpoena, and you fail to appear, then you may be found in contempt of the court. A fine and/or jail time can be imposed.

You didn't give enough details to give more than a generic answer. For proper advice, contact an attorney in your state. For a referral, contact your local or state bar association.

If you were served with a subpeona or notice...yes you may be...

It all really depends on the situation though:

are you a witness to something?
are you being cited for a by-law violation?
are you being sued in small claims or civil court?
is it a family matter?

why are you supposed to show?

If you have been subpoenaed then you must comply or you could be held in contempt and fined, jailed or both. Its rare for a witness to be arrested for contempt, but it could happen.
