Absolutely, but then people pronouncing the 'w' in Norwich (ie their own town in New England) when it should be silent is worse.

These sorts of pronunciation changes have occured anyway. A man called Webster wrote the first American dictionary- and he changed the sound of words to his whim- for the most part making every letter in any word phoneticised.

In my experience Southern accents clip off any letters considered expendable- so at least they're putting them back somewhere.

Is there a question here?

If the dictionary actually had been written by speakers of a Southern dialect, it would likely reflect the pronunciation of that dialect. It's unlikely anyone would further alter their speech due to the change.

I live in the deep south, and have never heard anyone pronounce the "l". Just that dumb @$$ Kelly Pickler who wouldn't know the difference between her head and a hole in the ground.

I guess Tennesse isn't deep enough. I'm a native Tennessean and it's not rare to hear the L pronounced but it isn't the norm either.

Since when did northerners take pronunciation cues from southerner?

Its a cultural/regional thing, lets leave it at that.

Snap, hell I saw the "l" and thought I was to pronounce it. Okay, so what about often. Are you aware that the "t" is silent. I just learned that about a year ago.
