Yes, it's still a little bit too early. Wait until he or she is 4-6 months old. It's really not too much longer to wait.
Just because lots of other people start their babies on rice cereal does not make it better for their children. Some people are understandably anxious to be able to get a good night of sleep so they start their babies on rice cereal too early, but babies are meant to feed every few hours and it's normal for them to not sleep through the night yet.

Personally, I would not rush solid food. Once you have introduced it, you are supposed to keep giving it to him. I also read something that you shouldn't have one single food for too long without introducing others, or the baby could develop allergies. Then you are feeding veggies and fruits and its a messy pain until they are about 6 mohts old and able to eat and digest properly. I introduced at 4 months, but i wish I hadn't. One of the doctors in my group recommended 4 months and the other 6, if my guy wasn't so huge and needing more food I would not have.
ps I have also read NOT to put in a bottle as it could be a choking hazzard and also the bottle should be for liquid only.

The problem is every1 will tell you something different. What i have found is as long as you make it runny and gradually thicker to prevent it from damaging the babys throat then i think yes you can. Especially if its a hungry baby but i would keep it to baby rice for a few weeks until the baby is used to it. Baby rice is only something to introduce foods so it wont do any harm. Dont be alarmed if the baby wont take it at first a little patience and if no joy try in a couple of days

I just spoke with my daughter's pediatrician last week about this same question and she strongly advised against it (my daughter is 3 months also). My daughter is even having trouble with her weight. Every pediatrician and every mom is going to give you different advice. What I've always used to make these types of desicions is that if there is no specific need for the cereal such as some type of health issue, why chance it. It's not going to hurt them to wait, but there's always that chance it could cause problems if you start too early. There obviously is just enough research against it to cause some doctors to dislike it, and I figure they're more educated than I am. I used this same philosophy when it came to peanut butter and toddlers. The child doesn't know what they're missing if they've never had it.

My daughter just turned 2 months old and I have had here on rice cereal in her bottle for about two weeks. The reason for this is because she wanted to eat every hour and gulped her food so fast I was always fighting a tummyache. I started with just a tablespoon to 4 oz. to see how she digested it- meaning if she got diarreha, rash, spit- up more. I didn't start it because I wanted her to sleep longer. I moved up to a scoop that they use to measure one scoop of formula for 4 oz.. I talked to her peditrician and let him know that I had did this and they said that it wasn't a problem. Feeding with a spoon rice cereal probably is too early but, if you want to know for sure ask your baby's peditrician.

I would definitely give him cereal. I had two boys that were 9.9 and 9.8 - I also breast fed them. I could not seem to feed them enough and my aunt gave them cereal - they were so happy, they loved it. I know the doctors say their stomachs aren't ready yet but back in the day they fed us as soon as one month and we turned out fine. Your baby will be so satisfied to get some real food - only try a little at first and you will be able to tell.

no you really don't want to go by the actually age of your child you want to got by how he/she is developing if your child has control of his/her head and doesn't push the cereal out of his/her mouth with thier tongue then I would say your baby is ready...they are now saying that the early you introduce cereals to babies there is less of a chance for food allergies. Good Luck

ive always been told you should try not to before 6 months but definately not before 4 months
however there is a heinz brochure that says you can tell if theyre ready for it if theyre opening their mouth, if theyre doing the tounge pokey outey thing theyre not ready (and its hard to keep food in their mouth anyhow if theyre just pushing it out while trying to suck it in...)
