The experience of many mixed-race or multiracial Americans differs very much from the experiences of monoracial Americans and, consequently, identify more strongly as such. Do we need our own space on the census?

Such AS...Multiracial. If you qualify, check 'yes'. If not, don't. Cork, that's two. Personally, I would just as soon not have to put up with all that. If could be acknowledged as an American, nothing more nothing less, but that's not the America in which I live. So, if I have to identify racially (and we do; if we don't the census takers and whomever it is that sees us will do it for us), I'd just as soon do so on my own terms.

You might run into the ALCU. They don't want anything like this.
I am of Irish decent, 1st GEN, and I am freckled, but I must mark white. Also I do not associate with any culture. So be sure to add none of the above.

Yes but the reason they probably haven't done this yet is probably because there are just so many people that would be in that category and maybe because they want to know which race you are the most.
