KILLERS and armed robbers are exploiting a benefits loophole to rake in thousands — behind bars.
Lags allowed out of a jail each day to do jobs are topping up their wages by claiming Working Tax Credit.
The bonanza was blasted as a “farce” yesterday — as it emerged taxpayers are footing a bill of more than £50,000 a year. Working Tax Credit is meant to help hard-up families.
But prisoners let out to work while serving the last stretch of their sentences at Kirklevington Grange prison near Stockton-on-Tees realised they too could claim.
They are eligible even though they return to cells each day and have no food, accommodation or travel costs. Last night a prison source said: “These benefits are to help people with living expenses prisoners just don’t have. It’s a farce.
“A couple of guys who know how the system works put in for the benefit and their applications were waved through. Everyone else followed suit.

In Prison, paid for by the Tax Payer, the best health care paid for by the tax payer, education paid for by the tax, the use of the judicial system paid for by the tax payer. Knowing right from wrong...common sense!!!

I think it is absolutely abhorrent that this could happen.
What the hell is going on in this Country?
What about a little extra TC for the victims, oh! I"m sorry, in the eyes of this Government, there are no victims.
I was speaking with the landlady at my local pub on Sunday. She mentioned a well known local alcoholic. Not only does the State house her and feed her, she also gets an extra £80.00.p/w because she is a registered alcoholic.
Does it pay to work hard, pay taxes, scrimp and save to get on the housing market, only for the Government to force you to sell it if you become infirm in your old age? or
Do you sit on your big fat **** and let everybody else pay for your upkeep?
I am now 60 years of age and have "never" had a penny from the state, so I will accept my "bus pass" and "heating allowance"
but I will also thank the rest of the tax payers for funding it for me.

Many People feel that the UK is caving into Liberal pressures from all sides.
The UK and The French have been under pressure to make amends for past injustices to minorities and others.
Each country has been the object of Demonstrations and protests and bombings.
My thinking here is, they are going too far too soon.
Ultimately, the UK Will have to live with their decisions. Both Good and Bad decisions.
I agree with you that this is a bad decision by the Brits.
Thanks for the question.

The Criminal Justice system has been a farce for years. The WTC decision is just one of many crackpot measures don't forget the compensation for drug addicts because of cold turkey. All we hear from the woolly thinking liberals ( Guardian readers in the main) is excuses " they are poor " don't have a up to date computer " or the classic " they freedom fighters" . My grandfathers Generation many lived in slums and there was very little state support yet they was no muggings of oaps and yobs because then there still was discipline and shared morals which the liberal elite hate but its the working class who are suffering because of its removal not them.

Where is your evidence that "killers and armed robbers" are claiming Working Tax Credit?
The prisoners in receipt of WTC are reaching the end of their sentences, and are considered to be of no threat to the public or of absconding, that is why they are being allowed to work in the community.
One of the advantages of paying them WTC is that they will have money to help them with living expenses when they are released, and it is often a lack of money which drives them back into crime; therefore this may just help break the circle of crime.
Additionally prisoners are not allowed to keep the money that they earn, it is kept for them by the prison authorities, and they are given a fixed amount per week (set by each prison Governor) to spend. Therefore the implied assumption that these individuals are going to be well-off is incorrect, as they will receive no more per week than they were before.
