As the mother of a 17 yr old - yes you can work out at a Gym. However..... Be sure that you go to a gym where they have trained employees to show you how to use the equipment and put you on a workout regimine that is appropriate for you. The best way to work your abs is on a ball. You will be less likely to hurt yourself strengthening all of the muscles including those on the side of your stomach and your lower back. Don't do this alone. Get help the first few times until you are comfortable. Walking will also work the muscles in your abdomin and is good for cardio. Eat healthy and stay away from fried food!

By age 17 your bones and muscles are more than ready to be stressed by vigorous workouts. Just start slow so you don't get too stiff and sore or you won't be able to go right back to it. suggest weight or machine workout no more than three times a week. Give muscles a day between workouts to rebuild tissue. The other days you should do excercise that increases heart rate. Bicycling is a great aerobic workout that gets everything pumping and it isn't as hard on the knees as jogging. Same goes for swimming.
I have been told that crunches are even better for the abs than situps. At the gym there should be someone to ask about the weight lifting factor that will isolate the abs.
Good luck.....

You need to get a work out plan you need to find your target heart rate zone for a safe work out. I suggest you get a book from the library on Health and fitness or search it on the web. Your never too young for exercise. If you want washboard abs i suggest doing exercise that work your abdominal muscles if you can feel it in your stomach then thats whats getting the work out. The best way to do this at home is to sit in an armless chair suck your stomach in but keep breathing , hold onto the sides of the chair and lift your legs to your chest without moving your arms or upper body.. you'll have abs in no time

yes you are old enough. As you were a model im assuming you are tall and have developed? i've been working out (not in the gym) since the age of 13. i'm an international athlete and have been runinng regularly for years. if you want to get toned ab's you should do crunches and similar ab exercises which you should be able to find on the internet. But you won't be able to see the ab's until you lose fat. going to have to do anaerobic exercise regualrly. eg running, cycling, swimming and ge tyour heart rate in the fat buring zone.

It's never too early to go to the gym. Start a diet and a light exercise routine (walking or running) to lose the stomach fat, then use gym equipment to get the "washboard abs."

If you want to get washboard abs, burn carbs by doing cardio and work with ab toning machines to tone your stomach. Do at least 45 minutes of cardio and a good 30minutes at the least doing toning machines. If you really need help, hire a trainer to help you get on track to your goal weight.

Yep, you gotta hoist something heavier than a fork. Free weights are a good start, but don't neglect other body parts. A treadmill (or, even better, walking/running outdoors) is a dandy systemic exercise. Sit ups, while boring as all get-out, will get rid of the paunch. Whatever you decide to do, the key to success is sticking to it, OK?

There's a little kid already physically fit at the age of 6, did you hear about it a while ago. This kid's dad is like Mr. universe or something, So it's not to late for you, it will do you good in the long run anyways.
