I got my male syrian hamster this past September and everything seems to freak him out. He's overly-paranoid! I'm not sure how old he is but would guess he's 1/2 year-year old. He freezes at every noise and tries to avoid any human contact. After we do handle him, he buries a hold in a corner and sticks his head in it.

As he's getting older, will he ever stop being so paranoid?

Well hamsters in general are timid animals. After all they are like a billionth our size. Imagine it from their "shoes". Everything is huge......and especially if he is 1/2 years old, everything is new to him as well.

As he gets older It will still be timid, but he may get used to certain things....

Aww! I have a guinea pig that has the same problem! No matter how much i hold and love her shes still afriad of people and other noises, but shes not afraid of our other guinea pig who is very mean to her, but she is afraid of a nice gentle human..i dont understand it at all. Just try your best to spend x-tra time with her and try to gain his trust... thats what im attempting. Good luck!

I say no and this is the reason why...your hamster is the size of most peoples fists...if you were that size and you had things clomping around you that were 30 plus times your size it would freak the crap out of you all the time as well....
