This is a question open to many interpretations and I would like to hear stories of people conquering things or something that made you feel 10 feet tall no matter how small it may seem to you.

Lost 30lbs, learned a new language or stood your ground on something. Let me know.

My divorce. I got out of a situation which I never should have been a part of in the first place. I no longer had to make feeble excuses for someone else's less than desirable behavior. Taking my life back took a huge weight off my shoulders and made me feel like a man again. I had to start over from scratch, but my life was again my own.

Isn't it sad that when you ask for an empowering moment, i think of almost the complete opposite: a moment where i learned humilty; when i was awed with existince. Two moments that i really remember, both about my mother, who died during the summer. She was a musician, in love with music and trying to find the meaning of life, religion, and everything around her. She's the one who inspired me to be just that: me. but anyway, to the point.

My first moment: For our choir, we had to sing "Your heart will lead you home" (the song from the tiger movie... i know... stupid) anyway, the first verse is: sunny days and starry nights, and lazy afternoons, you're counting castles on the clouds, and humming little toons. But somehow right before your eyes, the summer fades away. Everything is different, and everything has changed. That made me cry, which was really the first time i had ever cried in public. it described my whole situation... but further more... the music was something that my mom would have played on the piano....

My second moment: We had a mass festival for my choir-- i know, again with the music and the mom-- and for one of the songs, they brought in a cello player. i LOVE the cello in every which way, shape and form. i was thinking while i was singing this AMAZING song and listening to the cello, and i thought about it: music is really the best way to express yourself. you can get different moods, different emotions out of people that you've never met or heard of. It is the most amazing thing that mankind has discovered. music, language, art... it is all something that we will share through generations--how we touch people we've never met and never heard of. since then, i've put all my heart into displaying the image and the emotion of every song that we sing in choir.

The moment I started to tutor people in the fine art of writing was when I realized my calling in life.

When someone at school brings me a paper, and I successfully show them the way to an "A," I feel grand.

It is especially gratifying to get a warm thank you after my tutee receives a good grade from their professor.

This feeling of calling has lead me to change my major to English education, so I may feel empowered as such for the span of a career.

The decision to quit drinking and drugging, which eventually lead to my salvation. That is, the most important event in my life is my decision to trust God and follow the teachings of his Son, Jesus. Everything else flows from there.
