I had mine at about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks....They were afraid it was too soon and it might now work...But it did....I think they like you to wait until 4 weeks but not more than 12 weeks.

I am not a pro-lifer. I see that there is a place for abortion. However having said this an abortion should depend on a few considerations - Was this a longterm relationship they were in - Is there an emotional attachment, what does she want to do - young girl or not there are a lot of services out there and support. I have had an abortion and my view is this "IT IS NOT A WOMANS RIGHT TO TERMINATE" "ITS A WOMANS RIGHT TO MAKE AN informed decision". One she is happy with and can look at herself in the mirror. Get your friend to some none directional counselling- not run by the abortion clinics because its not counselling - its rarely undertaken by a qualified counsellor and its biased!! And there is no supprt afterwards.
If she is happy to abort than that is her decision, but remember that you dont walk away from a decision like that unscathed and the suicide rate post abortion is high where as a pregnant woman would rarely kill herself.
Also pro lifers - the fanatical kind are a pain in the rear!! and if she goes ahead with it there is a good chance she will have to negotiate a group of pro lifers shoving oversized foetuses in her face and yelling abuse at her. This is also realy upsetting at a very stressful time. These pro-lifers dont seem to be rational, they could help alot more with factual information and respect.

To simply answer your question, if she has missed one period, she can have a termination of pregnancy, and terminations are granted until 24 weeks. Obviously the best thing is to have it carried out ASAP and its much preferred to have it done under 12 weeks. If you are in the UK, take her tomorrow to a Family Planning Clinic - she will be seen there without an appointment or her own GP (don't wait a week for a GP appointment though). Obviously it's better to be done sooner rather than later.
I
t's a very emotive issue and nobody enjoyed having an abortion. She may have trouble coming to terms with it after, so be prepared to be a shoulder to cry on. You are a good supportive friend, and good luck. Ignore the Ranters here... sometimes life isn't clear cut.

As long as shes 6 weeks along she can have one done. Some places will do a abortion up to 24 weeks. But the farther along she is the harder and more complicated it can get. I know you did not ask this or anything but tell your friend she might want to check out the abortion pill. She can take it in her home (after getting it from a doctor) and its less hard on someone. As for the age, she's not to young. Just make sure she has good friends like you to help her through the hard times.

Listen, this is your friends decision to make more than anyone elses. She knows her sitaution best and knows what she is capable of more than any other. There will always be negative people trying to force their opinions into your reality.
My point, i would make is for all those saying adoption is the best choice... when was the last time you visited adopted a child, or visited an orphanage? When was the last time you looked out for the needs of one of these unwanted children put up for adoption. What are those facilities like, how do you know all their needs are being met there... !
If you think the silent scream video is awful.. then you need to see a living.. breathing child who is dying of hunger or malnutrition. See how children suffer when brought into this world by parents who cannot provide for them and THEN you can say which is the better way.
If you somehow can't find a malnutrition ed child... (although there are too many in this world to miss them) then look out for the latest child abuse victim. Studies show that most abused children were once unwanted, unplanned pregnancies and in some situations forced to be brought into this world by parents or "moral characters".
I'm definitely not saying abortion is a cure-all but be aware of the real situtaion before pasing moral judgement and know all the facts before condemning ANYONE's decision.
TELL YOUR FRIEND TO TALK TO SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP HER THROUGH THIS DECISION. HER PARENTS, A COUNSELOR... SOMEONE OLD ENOUGH AND OBJECTIVE ENOUGH TO HELP HER OUT AND MAINTAIN HER BEST INTERESTS!

The abortion pill can be used for pregnancies up to 9 weeks, but the same criteria for ending the pregancy still stands under the 1967 Act. Your friend will still need the consent of two doctors.
Don't listen to the anti abortionists; they are trying to make you and your friend feel guilty about something one in three women in Britain has done in her lifetime. As 7 out of 10 women have at least one child the scaremongering about abortion causing infertility is rubbish. Well done for giving your friend your support.

If a termination is what she has decided (if she is too young to provide for the baby and also too young and inexperienced to feel confident in bringing up a child, this is probably the best decision for her), then the sooner she has it done, the better. Sometimes, the NHS can be a little slow on organising this sort of procedure and in that case it would be a good idea to have it done privately. The private procedures are really fast and usually done within a week of your first appointment. http://www.bpas.org/ - this is a link to a website with information about having a termination in a private clinic. Also website contains advice about pregnancy, so it would be worth having a look.

There is no minimum amount of time to carry a baby, however, there is a maximum amount of time. All states are different, but I live in VA, and if you are past 14 weeks, the state of Virginia will not do an abortion, you have to either have the baby, or go to another state, I know NC does abortions up to 20 weeks, but the further you wait the more of a chance you have of not being able to do it at all. Also, most states won't let you get an abortion without a parent's consent if your friend is underage.

She asked for advice not to be lectured by someone whose never been in the exact situation she is in so all you people need to get off your high horses and give her the facts not your damn opinions.
It should be done before 16 weeks however it can be done until the 23rd week. A fetus isnt considered viable until it is 24 weeks old. However at 23 weeks a fetus looks exactly like a baby it is physically fully formed {my daughter was born just under 24 weeks} and is about the size of a barbie doll. An abortion after 16 weeks are the ones where they poke a hole in the fetus' head and drain our the CSF. Please have her do it early as possible not only for the reason that the child will be fully formed but also the expense isnt as much.I hope your friend can deal emotionally with the hard choice she has made. My thoughts are with her.

You actually are thinking of this the wrong way. The sooner the better.
Prior to 9 weeks she could have taken drugs to induce a miscarriage. Now she has a short window to get an actual abortion.. wait too long and it's not possible (unless you live somewhere that partial-birth abortion is legal.. which is completely disgusting anyway)
