If it is all right to LIE to my child about Santa Clause and say that "he" exists (and give him the credit for all the money I dish out) - is it all right to put my own spin on it like "Santa Clause was killed when he splattered all over a supersonic jet"?
What we are telling our children is that it is all right to lie if it makes someone feel good!!!
When you tell the truth you can stop talking at anytime, when you lie - you have to keep talking.

The difference between telling children about Santa Clause and a fairy tale is that the child knows the fairy tale is just that... A FAIRY TALE... parents get their children to believe that their REALLY IS A SANTA CLAUSE!!!

Lighten up, for cryin' out loud! It's a fairy tale. Do you get this worked up over lying about Cinderella when you read your kid a book?
And by the way, it's spelled "Santa Claus." The Santa Clause is the movie.

but it IS alright to lie if it makes someone feel good. What paralell universe do you live in...people lie every day to allay fears, and to hide monstrocities. that is the way the world works. Santa is small potatos. Santa is the last bit of childhood left in a kid, when they stop believing, they have left it all behind, and there is no more magic in the world for them. Is it hurting you to let them believe?

Kids grow up fast why would you want to make them grow up faster. Lets tell them santa was killed, a hunter shot the easter bunny, The tooth fariy is just a peeping tom. Hey lets ruin everything so they grow up jaded and pissed off at the world. If you are worried if they know that you gave them the gifts then you are giving them for the wrong reason.

Did your parents tell you Santa was real? Are you okay now? I believed in Santa when I was little, and it hasn't been detrimental to my life. I intend to let my child believe in Santa. She may be upset when she learns he's not real, but in the long run it's not going to cause any real harm and it's fun.
