Since you have left out some very critical facts it would be hard to give a reasonable answer.

It's a safe bet that business is a cut throat venture. If the British company was owned or partially owned by an American company or if the take over was legal, there is no issue.

If you are a disgruntled employee, I would say get educated start you own company and figure out a way to severe the American company at the knee caps and take the company back!

I would start COMPETING with the new company. That is what business is all about. If you can't hack it, then you close. Soooo, start getting competitive. Just because you've been running for 30 years doesn't mean another company can't enter the race.

Reevaluate your scope of work and identify the problems that caused the downfall?
I can't draw any conclusion based on what you're saying. If you're so established, you probably did something right. See if you can offer your services (merge) with the other company.

Personally i'd do my best to bring the American company down. But i'm a vindictive sod!

i to am a brit who has had bad dealings with americans im not getting at them in general they have done a lot of good things(Mc donalds, Burger King, KFC,lol) but when it comes to business they are bigger and usealy have a lot more money to throw at things. i would try to do one of two things.
first off i would approach my customers and try to offer somthing the yanks have'nt thought of.
and secondly if that dosent work and you've done well for yourself then take early retirement. take it easy for a while.
and as for americans knowing better.. well we're still GREAT britain..

Impossible to tell without knowing the details. If you are the owner, sell out and start over.
