YES!!!
And Chicagoans are really nice and welcoming so you won't feel like an outsider. Plus you'll love our food! There are lots of jobs, especially in the suburbs because there is so much growth. Late spring and summer are soo gorgeous, and the winter isn't that bad as long as you've got a good coat and hat!

Chicago is just like new york city, or Los angeles, BUT about 10x cheaper (housing, food, etc.) . . . The people in chicago are so friendly and the nightlife is great...also, there are many jobs available in chicago that pay pretty well...

But...DO NOT rent or buy a house on the south side, stay downtown, or on the north side....crime rate is only horrible on the south side...so if you stay out of that area, you will be fine! You may find that housing is A LOT more expensive on the north side or downtown...but thats a small price to pay for your safety...

Yes, it's a very nice place. Like any big city, it has its problems - there are crime-ridden areas on the far west and far south sides, the weather is not the greatest, and it's a bit expensive. But in comparison to New York or LA, it's remarkably affordable. The areas downtown, north side, and in and around the Loop are walkable, fun, and filled with great restaurants and shops. There are tons of businesses with great jobs. And the lakefront is spectacular.

Great place to live, inexpensive (don't listen to anyone who says it isn't), lots to do, lots to see, great nightlife. is there crime? sure, like any city with millions of people. but people live here every day and get by and have a great time. We've got three or four major colleges in the city and it's filled with young people who come here, learn the city and get along fine. Wrigley Field and Sox Park in the summer, the beaches, snow in the park in the winter time, public transportation to get you anywhere. As far a jobs, it depends on what you do for a living. But since the city is so big and diverse, there are millions of fields to enter.

what's not to like

Yes..There are tons of jobs in Chicago..Transportation..Stores. But if you're going to live in Chicago prepare for break-ins, security needs, parking problems. That's really the only problems, the gangs, the pick pocketers, the parking..More money for some things.

I grew up in the NW suburbs of Chicago, and if it weren't for the winters, I would never have left. It's a great city with a lot of opportunities and enough variety to suit just about anybody.

It's an ideal place job wise for those in entertainment, health care and corporate jobs. But you have to have a job that meets the demand since so many companies are in fact downsizing and outsourcing so fast that many are forced to return to school for advanced degrees in their field and dealing with competition where many people are being displaced with more younger workers.

My brother lives/works there. He has to live in Naperville, about 30 miles outside the city, in order to afford rent! It's EXPENSIVE!
