They sure do. I use to think they should have a 4 team playoff, where the final game would be played during the bye-week before the Superbowl. But in a year like this, how could you even pick 4 teams let alone 2? Ohio State is a clear #1. But deciding between Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Arkansas, West Virginia, etc for the other 3 spots would be just as hard. It must go to an 8 team playoff. The disparity between 1 and 8 is great enough where teams sitting outside of the 8 selected teams wouldn't have much to gripe about.
Only two things are standing in the way: money (which could be resolved through a revenue sharing system) and time (remember these guys are students and need time for school).

Most people would agree that they need one. The drawbacks are that all of the little schools wouldn't get their bowl games, and also, the sponsors for the bowl games have contracts with them. Maybe the sponsors could still be linked with a playoff game, though. I think the best way to do it would be to have 16 teams or at least 8 in the tournament. It would be way more exciting. The way it is now, if a team loses one game during the season, you're pretty much eliminated from being #1.

I think the present system - while certainly flawed and far from perfect - is not necessarily bad. It creates controversy, it also creates drama, it also creates great match ups.
If there was a playoff, I think the "regular" season would not be as compelling to watch - kind of like NCAA Basketball, and the 64 team tournament.
I also think that a playoff system would encourage schools to schedule lesser opponents for their out of conference games, in order to get a better shot at making the playoffs. This could potentially eliminate many great match ups each season.

I guess it does only because the saying goes "nobody is Perfect"
the BSC stresses perfection (Record wise)
and sadly this year only one team has be able to deliver
All these teams that have shown weaknesses Scream for a playoff while the perfect teams don't care
yea there should be a tourney but I kno a tourney would make NCAA football alot less special

Of course!
They need an 8, 12, or 16-team playoff to see who's really the best and have the championship game at the Rose Bowl or what have you. Let the other schools play in the GMC bowl or whatever.

YES. Use the BCS ranking system for the top 8 teams and have a single game knockout tournament, the remaining teams can play in the "Bowl" games.

Yes. It is the only division in any NCAA sport that doesn't.

Of course they need it but they won't do it.
Will the real number 2 please stand up? Wait we can't settle it on the field so we have to endlessly debate instead of playing. They say Florida, he says USC, she says Michigan, etc etc
