I don't think you're being prudish at all, you are simply discreet, not a failing in my book.
I must tell, that your approach to asking this question may in fact hold the key to your answer. Consider that you were self deprecating in asking the question, always a good sign as it shows a certain charm. Secondly, being shy is something I can relate to, I was once quite shy but realized that it could be turned to a plus. Shyness can be controlled but never really overcome. As for the hints comment, that I'm afraid is something that requires practise, if you have a friend who is more attune to the game, perhaps they may be able to give you more hands on training so to speak. As for courting, which by the way I think is quite gentlemanly, I would say that you need only be yourself, the very respectful, discreet and quite amiable man who is asking this question.

You should try to seek out other men who share the same interests as you do. I know that it sounds simple, but sometimes the best answers are. If you are successful, you will find at the very least some interesting conversation. Happy hunting...

Try a gay bar or something. You'll have a better chance of randomly finding a gay person there, even with a broken gaydar.
(And just for calibration: No, I'm not gay.)

Men who are vain to the point of Diva perfection are gay. Men who are more laid back and less wound up like me are straight.
