China has announced that its first nationwide census in a decade puts the Chinese population at 1,260,000,000, including people living on the island of Taiwan.
The figure means that the population has grown by 132.2 million since 1990, an increase of 11.7%, said Zhu Zhixin, Director-General of the National Bureau of Statistics.
Annual growth was 1.07% - down 0.4% from the rate in the 1980s.
But some analysts believe the latest figures underestimate the population growth.

Not yet shrinking but if current conditions persist, its population will start shrinking at some point in coming years. China's fertility rate is about 1.7. That is too low to maintain a stable population, and China's demographic profile is quickly getting older. It takes awhile from that point for population to peak out though, since improving life expectancy means lots of folks will obviously continue to live into old age before they die off.
Shrinking is probably a certainty -- no reason to expect the fertility rate will increase; it'll probably fall more as Chinese people become wealthier. And immigration couldn't make a dent in a country already as big as China.

The one child rule was not strictly observed, and has been found counter productive (pun intended) for a number of reasons.
The Chinese population will one day outnumber all other "races" combined.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

As others have said, it won't be reduced. As to your added question re migration, that rate of course won't be reduced either.

No, they are not becoming smaller. It is just that China is sinking under the weight.
