Having played both for some years it is, unequivocally... Empire Earth... better game play and graphics... more plausible and interesting... better learning section and generally more fun.

Age of Empires a million and a pair of have been large yet age of empires 3 wasn't that large. the comparable element with upward thrust of countries, RON a million and Thrones and patriots have been sturdy yet RON:ROL isn't that sturdy.

Both are equally good, but i'd choose Rise of Nations as you can attack anyone with a stealth bomber or blow them up with a tank and its just beautiful to watch your oppenent still use powder and ball technology and find they are totally defenceless when your submarine fleet attacks their Wooden warships and merchant fleets.
