My friend is being harrassed by a woman twice her age (see's 28 and the lady is 29). She keeps emailing this horrible emails for about 2 weeks now. All over $90. My friend paid her with a money order making sure to send it through the post office requiring a signature. Now a week later (my friend hasn't contacted her) she's being served by the sheriff. We know it's because of this crazy lady. I think it's a restraining order. Will a restraining order ruin her teaching career?

no, its nobodys business but hers.

I would have your friend save all those emails from that woman. copy them to a disk and take them into the police dept. They will put a stop to it right away with no restraining order requred.

Its not going to hurt her career.

For a restraining order to be issued the person asking for it has the burden of proof that it is necessary for whatever reason. If your friend sent the payment as you said...then she has proof that she paid...proving the other woman a liar. Which makes a restraining order less likely to be issued one would think. I would tell your friend to gather her evidence of payment...and that the woman is actually harassing her and take it with her to court should it become and issue. Either way, the way you have told it ..the law should be on her side and she should have little to fear in regards to legal or professional repercussions.

Point 1. if your friend is 28 and the other lady is 29, how is that twice her age. Point 2. Why didn't she just block her email from coming in. There is much more to this story you are not telling, give us the whole story. Point 3, if there is a restraining order you friend needs to get the court to schedule a hearing on it since she was not at the initial hearing to rebut the charges. Point 4. She should get a mutual restraining order on the other person while she is at it.

I think there is a difference between a restraining order and being served, but don't take that as written in stone.

If she has done nothing in any way to harm this person then she has nothing to worry about.

No. And I you don't just get served a restraining order. It is a matter that requires a court hearing and judgment. They just don't walk up to your door witha restraining order.

Personal experience on this one.

No it won't ruin her teaching career.
But I do wonder how a woman who's 29 is considered twice the age of a woman who's 28......interesting math!

Well, what about the signature?

And how about a copy of the money order? Wasn't it written in the other woman's name? If it was cashed, it must have been done by her.

If one is 28 and the other is 29, that is hardly twice his age.. If he owes this person money he needs to pay up.
