Hi,
Infant swings are best for newborns or for under 6 months of age. But as long as the baby is tolerating the swing and this lulls them to sleep than this should be fine. This can be a great help with a fussy newborn or newborn that does not want to go to sleep! What happened with my kids is the following. My first baby started grabbing onto the side of the swing (the outer frame) and started hitting the swing up against this at about 6 months. This is when I knew that this was no longer a safe item to use. My second baby started wanting to sit up at about 5-6 months and started becoming annoyed with the swing as she could not sit up completely straight. An exersaucer or entertainer is great for a baby with good head control that wants to sit up, play and look around the room (before the baby begins to walk.) I would look at the weight limit on your infant swing and keep this in mind. Sometimes it is not so much the age as it is the weight and/or development of the baby. For example, if the baby is sitting up at an early age than they will probably need to come out of the infant swing at an earlier age. Good luck. Oh, I would not leave your baby in the swing for more than an hour at a time. Sometimes this happens when you are sleep-deprived. The baby will want to eat a lot as a newborn anyway. So, pick up and hold the baby during feedings, etc.

There's not a certain amount of time for keeping a baby in a swing. Just don't keep the baby in the swing all day or he will be late w/ reaching certain milestones. Just keep the baby happy and you'll be fine.

Do you mean at one time, or age?
We only ever put our son in the swing for maybe 10-15 minutes at a time, unless he fell asleep in it. After that, he would get very restless & squirm until he was taken out of it.
As far as age, we stopped putting him in it when he learned he could reach out and grab the bars when he was swinging. He nearly flipped the whole thing over with himself in it. He was about 6 months old at that time. Your particular swing should have age/weight restrictions in the info booklet it came with. If you don't have that, you should be able to look up the brand and model online to find the specs. Hope that helps! :-)

It's really up to your discretion. My daughter is in it sometimes for 1 hr, but other times she's only in it for 15 min. I gave both of my babies a lot of belly time though.. Don't worry about it though.. As long as your baby is content. I do advise to not let your baby fall asleep in it though, and if that happens put them in their crib. Good luck to you

Until they attmpt to climb out! Or how many hours a day, if they are newborn they enjoy the rocking motion but as they get to be a few months old they need tummy time and more stimulation
