I just changed one in my car about 3 weeks ago it was pretty simple. Like everyone else has said it is easier to buy a new one, once a thermostat is dead it is dead. I got a new one at Kragen and it cost about 10 bucks and it took about an hour to replace. I had the help of a repair manual, very nice, very easy to use. I use a free online help manual.

All you have to do is just click on "current vehicle" in the top left and follow the steps. It's pretty simple. It is a very helpful site you can get a free vehicle repair guide to help you with your problem, it will walk you through about anything that you would have to do to your car. It is in a step-by-step format and it has illustrations to make thing even easier.

you don't. if you want to check it, put it in a small pot (2 quarts or so) with water in it and turn the burner on. if the spring moves when the water heats up, the thermostat is good, if it doesn't, replace it. $15 to $25.

A Car thermostat is one of those items that you will just replace. they are not a repairable item. (with comon tools). There are procedures to verify they are opening and closing at the right temp. but given its price, the vast population of mechanics will replace them when in doubt.

you don't fix a thermostat, you replace it. Even if you could fix it, it wouldn't last.
