I agree. Saying holiday break instead of Christmas break is a joke. However, I respect others opinions and faiths, but I should be able to say mine as well as them theirs.

Yes, it annoys me very much. The government in my country is trying to wipe out everything having to do with a specific holiday or religion for the sake of being politcally correct. I don't discriminate against other religions and I believe that they should be free to practice them, but I live in a predominately Christian country. That doesn't mean everyone who lives here has to be christian, but there's no reason for anyone to be offended by things like saying "Merry Christmas" or stores having "Christmas Sales". It never offended anyone before, so why are people offended now? If we're supposed to have freedom of religion, then why can't Christianity be practiced in a public place other than church? I don't believe that's offensive.

I am an atheist, so my opinions have nothing to do with christianity.
But it REALLY hacks me off when we get all this stuff about "winter lights" and "winterval" and cr*p like that.
This is not only a religious thing, it's a cultural thing, British people, whether christian or not, have been celebrating christmas for centuries.
What is the problem?
Muslim and Jewish leaders have spoken recently saying they are happy for Christians to celebrate Christmas, just as they celebrate Eid and the Passover.
So who exactly is offended? No one, I imagine. This is just another daft PC thing, and, sorry, but it's b*ll*cks.
I speak as someone who would rather stay in bed with a bottle of wine and a nice plate of beans on toast on xmas day. Sadly my children and grandchildren object, so I have to make an effort.
But I think it's REALLY important that if people want to celebrate a traditional British festival, for religious reasons or just to enjoy it, they should be free to get on with it , without a lot of hand-wringing loonies going on and on and on.........

The way things are going, and if they continue, we are all going to live in a single color world, but then people will still complain that that color bothers them. I think that if people are offended by something, sure, they can beleive what they wish, but it not necessary to make such a big deal over it so that we cant say "christmas lights", or show santa or angels in school any more, supposedly its "politically incorrect" because someone who doesnt believe in angles or christmas or whatever was "offended by the sight"
I say that if people are offended by santa because they dont celebrate christmas, or for whatever reason on any other holiday, then JUST IGNORE IT!
basically, YOU PEOPLE CAN CELEBRATE WHATEVER HOLIDAY YOU WANT, JUST LET US CELEBRATE WHAT WE WANT!!!!!!!!!
sorry i get kinds emotional over this issues

When I was younger this topic used to upset me mainly because I always thought that America was based on Christianity. Later in life I found out that is not true. Still I feel the same way as you, but I no longer get heated about it. My personal belief is that Christmas has been a tradition for generations now and with all the recent floods of illegal immigrants THAT'S who it is offensive to.

I have worked in multi-cultural schools & no-one was offended by Christmas, Eid or the celebration of any other festival.
What name will we be giving 25th December?? Can we still have Santa?
Wow what would the shops fill their shelves with from September to December without Christmas??

I work with somebody who is a Jehovahs thingie and each year we have to have our staff do in November because she does not celebrate Christmas - I dont care if she worships Ken Barlow but its her business and best to keep it to herself as I dont go in to a workplace and offer my private habits. P.C. has gone completely mad. Very soon, white, heterosexual, healthy, sober, hardworking, decent people will be in the minority and then we will be allowed our opinions to be foisted on everyone else. Ironic isnt it? As for winter lights, I feel like throwing something!!!!!

I am a british indian born and bred in the midlands.. the CHRISTMAS holidays are the best holidays of the year. we put up CHRISTMAS decorations in our house, my family get together and we have traditional CHRISTMAS dinner (with a hint of indian spices), my grandfather, who served for britain in the army during the war, looks forward to it all year. i understand people getting offended at derogotary words but if the word CHRISTMAS offends people then they really are in the wrong country. celebrating CHRISTMAS is a part of british culture, simple as that.
