My husband had an injury which caused a hernia and had to have surgery to pull one testi back down. Could this be the propblem? My husband is also over weight do you think this could be a factor?

I do not think that the surgery and the weight can have an effect on TTC.

To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex. Tell your husband to ejaculate on his inward thrust so that the sperms will shoot deep inside.

After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up with a pillow under your buttocks so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 3 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

It's possible that yours and his weight could be an issue. If you aren't having sex on the right 2 or 3 days a month you could really go a long time without getting pregnant.

I would suggest charting your cycle, you can find many web pages that will help you. That way you'll know when you ovulate and can time sex better.

Otherwise I would also set up an appt with your doctor for a physical to check out that everything is good.

They both could be factors. He needs to have a sperm count done to check. That is the easiest thing to check first. Go to the doctor. Having used birth control does not decrease your ability to get pregnant later, that's just factually incorrect. It may take a month or so to get the extra hormones out of your system, but it will not take 3 years.

Over weight, and the surgery could very well have caused a problem for him. It could be that in the process of pulling the testical back into place that the tube was irritated, or even became infected along the way, causing scar tissue to pinch off the flow of semen from that testical. Cutting his production in half.

It could also be that his sperm count is low, or the motility is low.

You should also get checked to make sure you're ovulating like you ought to be.

Typically if it takes you more than a year to get pregnant its time to consult your doctor.

I had two children from a previous marriage. Remarried and I had my tubes tied 2 weeks after I married my 2nd husband.I was married for 12 years and was not with anyone else, divorced my husband and the very 1st time I had intercourse with another man I became pregnant. the doctors wouldn't give me a good explanation for it but I think it was something to do with his sperm. Be cautious.

I don't recall hearing that weight affects men in that way. I know u want to hear more than "see ur Dr." but of course that's probably the best thing to do.
Most couples r able to conceive within 6 mos. of reg sex n no birth control. 85% will conceive within a yr. The remaining 15% face fertility problems. Couples who hv not conceived within 12 mos should consult their Dr. After the age of 35 n after 6 mos of trying, u should consult ur Dr.

Well I'm not a doctor but my first three years of marriage I wouldn't get pregnant. My husband and I went to the doctor and she told us it could be lack of fruits and vegetables from my husband and stress from wanting to get pregnant also, maybe your husband is using underwear that restrict down there. Or maybe he rides the bicycle too much or something that is affecting his penis or testicles. And maybe you need some vitamins and drink alot of cranberry juice they say it cleanses the body and gives you nutrients and energy. one more thing, after intercorse lay down with your legs in the air for a while maybe 30 minutes it helps to get sperm up the track.

You need to see a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist. A regular gyn or ob will not suffice. Definitely mention your husband's medical history. Infertility is due to "male" factor just as often as it is due to "female" factors. Bottom line, three years is an awfully long time.
