I suppose there could be several ... but how about Panama Oxridge? There's a gorilla character (called Eliza) in her latest novel, and it is on the book's web site too.

Daniel Quinn's main character in 'Ishmael' is a gorilla. He illustrates some of his books, but he didn't do that one. Either way it's a great book.
