I have a 6 year old and he'll get one or the other. Given that he has small hands and is likely to treat the system like a 6 year old, is one more likely to last than the other? I've read that the DS Lite's have had some clamshell hinge cracking issues.

Thanks in advance.

I personally prefer the DS Lite. Got it for my daughter for her 8th birthday, and that thing has been dropped a couple of times (to my horror) and my 3 year old has been running around with it (who knows what he has done with it) and it is still fine. Only thing is, get the black one, we have the white, and gets dirty quickly.

well i think 99% of people if they wanted would choose a DS lite over a DS for obvious reasons. It's lighter in weight and has a brighter screen. The original will hurt your wrists if you're playing for a while. The ed hinge thing is over now and you can get it replaced if it happens.

I have a DS but i say a DS Lite is better for him, and also get screen protectors.

the ds lite, its more durable, easier to handle, and doesn't scratch on the outside. I also recommend getting screen protectors.
