Try reading "A Shot In The Heart." It is written by Mikal Gilmore and based on the life of his brother, serial killer, Gary Gilmore. "The Executioner's Song" was also based off of Gilmore's crazy, sick life.

Try any of the Jonathan Kellerman books. They are great and usually have great twists in them. I like his Alex Deleware series.
Patricia Cornwell is a great writer, I especially liked Body Farm.
James Patterson's Alex Cross Mysteries are also very good.
Of course for down right gore, violence, murder, mayhem and the like, nothing beats a Stephen King book. I would suggest Pet Semetary, Cujo, The Tommyknockers, Dead Zone, It, The Shining, etc.

I recently read a book titled "End of Story" by Peter Abrahams. It's kinda a thriller, with some murder, lies, and sex thrown in. It's got some good twists (especially at the end). I highly suggest it. If you do decide to read it (or anyone else, for that matter) please let me know what you think!

Stephen Lawhead writes historical/celtic books. Lots of gore and murder, and you'll love the twists and turns.

James Ellroy...intricate, convoluted, atmospheric, noir! A troubled man telling troubling tales.
Elmore Leonard...straightforward, authentic, selectively violent, amusing (at times).
John Gregory Dunne...acerbic, cynical. "True Confessions."
