Intellectual development is a theory conceived by developmental biologist Jean Piaget. He devoted his life to closely observing and recording the intellectual abilities of infants, children and adolescents. Piaget deduced that development occurs in four stages which corresponded to brain growth. These include Sensorimotor(0-2 years), Preoperational(2 years to 7 years) , Concrete operational(7 years to 11), and Formal operational(11-15 years). Sensrimotor is further broken into 6 stages and Preoperational into 2 stages.
